The short film Nullpunkt (Zero) investigates various forms of discontent in a society in which our globalized world-view spawns doubts about lasting peace or increasing chaos, and in which white fear and environmental problems are growing at a steadily increasing rate. Fear of an uncertain future and frustration at the current political situation do not give rise to stable narratives. Moreover, these narratives are often manipulated by the media, which to a large extent controls public perceptions of the world. Neither is it always easy to distinguish between what is rooted in reality and the subjective interpretation of the facts. It is a strenuous task to negotiate the globalized world and at the same time preserve one’s integrity as an independent individual.

In Nullpunkt we follow the character – a well functioning man in his thirties – through a variety of situations that involve making choices and relating to his personal surroundings. The film describes the character in mundane circumstances in which he has to confront existential questions. The selected scenes slowly empty his existence of meaning, forcing him to find new constructions capable of carrying him forward. In a series of filmic scenes and documentary observations, Furu studies an all too normal form of anxiety.
